Girls Varsity Preview Several weeks into the season and we've seen the impact freshmen girls are having across the State. 7 of the top 10 runners in the Rubber Rundown are in grades 9 or lower. The FUTURE RUNS NOW. There are a total of 326 Girls entered in the 5K. See the Full List of Entries Here Expect a full-blown showdown in the Girls race for freshman bragging rights. The favorite going is Mater Academy's Valerie Lastra who finished 2nd last week at the Spanish River Invitational right behind another freshman, Jupiter's Alexandra Del Re. Don't expect Valerie to run away from the competition. She'll have plenty of company alongside her with the 2014 2A State XC Champion from Pine Crest, a healthy Tsion Yared who will be yearning to solidify the home field advantage and go one place better than she did in 2015 where she finished runner-up behind Dillard's Brittany Gill, now a freshman for the Central Florida Knights. The Team battle won't be close. Pine Crest is a year-in, year-out dominant force not only in South Florida, but in 2A and across the State. It will be interesting to see if Suncoast can close the gap on St. Brendan's especially after Suncoast's impressive 1A/2A win this past weekend at Spanish River. Will Suncoast bring and race the A team? Will St.Brendan's be looking for some redemption after their 1 point loss to Ransom-Everglades at the STU Bobcat Invitational?
Boys Varsity Preview A good look at the Spanish River Invitational results shows it was a speedy affair. The top 3 guys should all be in the hunt for individual honors but we're giving the nod to Calvary Christian's Danny Ferro who hasn't really hit full stride so far this season. We know he has the whells to finish faster than anyone in the rest of the field and the secret will be for Kennedy and Shine to gap Danny early and hopefully be well out in front should he decide it's time to go for the finish line in a hurry.
Much like the Girls Varsity race, the battle up front won't be close team-wise. Expect a dominant performance from the depth of Pine Crest low sticks to carry the afternoon. Calvary Christian up against Coach Key's Westminster Academy boys will be a great match-up to see unfold. The latest FACA Poll has Westminster Academy ranked 2nd in the State for 1A. Calvary Christian is ranked 7th in 2A. The top 3 teams are all very familair with each other after last weekend's Spanish River Clash which saw this Final Results in the Boy's 1A/2A standings.
Expect more of the same today assuming everyone runs seeing it's only 5 days on.
